Video Bridging Service
Video Bridging allows multiple videoconferencing endpoints to connect with each other internal and external to U of I.
Our bridging service is Zoom
Zoom is a reliable platform for video bridging services and can easily be scheduled and controlled by you. Scheduling, inviting attendees, starting the video conference, connecting to other room-based systems and starting/stopping recordings with Zoom are all easily controlled by you as the meeting host. While Zoom is very intuitive to use, there are excellent resources for users from all technical levels at uidaho.zoom.us/support.
Participants do not need a Zoom account to join a meeting. Anyone can join a meeting using the Zoom mobile apps or desktop applications for Windows and Mac. A Zoom account is required to host or schedule a meeting. You can use your NetID credentials to login to Zoom and access your account.
Check to make sure your computer and internet connection meet minimum requirements. Whenever possible connect your computer to a wired network instead of WiFi. WiFi is more susceptible to interference and inconsistent connection speeds. Disconnect from any VPN connections before joining your meeting or class. VPN connections are unnecessary for Zoom and can cause network latency issues that may result in poor audio and video quality during meetings or classes. If you are unsure whether you meet minimum requirements for Zoom please contact your local video support or your TSP.
If you plan to use Zoom Cloud Recording, please remember the space Zoom provides for cloud storage is limited and is shared among all Zoom users. Zoom users should frequently check for and delete any Zoom recordings that are no longer needed. Zoom users who wish to store recordings long term should download and move recordings to a U of I-provided network location such as OneDrive, or your User or Shared drive.
Please remember classes that are recorded may be subject to FERPA regulations. Class recordings should only be shared with those who have a legitimate educational interest, and should never be moved to and/or stored on external online services. Class recordings should only be stored on U of I-provided User or Shared drives. Class recordings that will remain in the cloud should be password protected.
